Introducing Lucas do Livramento, our New Finance Assistant

I was born in Brazil and moved to Vancouver with my family in the late 90s. I have lived in Vancouver since. I did my undergrad at UBC, and then completed a Master of Divinity at Regent College. I decided a career alternative was necessary and pursued a bookkeeping certification through Langara college in 2018. After that I worked in a non-profit organization as a full cycle bookkeeper for a few years before coming to work for UBC.

Interesting facts — I am an avid gamer on many different mediums. I play various video game genres, as well as board games, but am most involved with table top wargames that involve assembling and painting miniature figurines as well as using them as game pieces on elaborate tables also comprised of hand assembled and painted scenery.

What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on? I’m currently trying to learn the various processes of Workday.

What’s your go-to productivity trick? Coffee.

Are you an early bird or a night owl? Night owl.

How do you prefer to start your day? I snooze the alarm a couple times, then hop in the shower. I usually skip morning meals in favor of a caffeinated beverage.

How do you wind down after work? Usually I will watch something funny or browse the internet for a bit.

What energizes you at work? Coffee and fast electronic music.

What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not working? Play games or work on my hobbies.

What led you to this career? I have some experience as a full cycle bookkeeper and UBC is often recommended as a great employer.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work? My parents, both always instilled in me the attitude to see things through, and to not leave things half done.

Have you ever had to “unlearn” something in your professional life? What was it? Yes. When I finished my academic training, I had to relearn to speak without using all the jargon I had picked up.
