So far the first half of 2022 has been a very busy year for the residency program, starting with CARMS interviews, TM Royal College Review, Pathology Day, Grad Dinner & Orientation & transitioning to CBD for the Hematopathology program.
We also welcomed to our admin team for the summer, WorkLearn Student, Lauren Rutherford who has been helping us with some admin work that we just couldn’t get around to doing. Lauren joined us in May, and both Mayumi and I have very much enjoyed having her work with us. She helped us with all our events, & enjoyed a personalized lab tour with Dr Nimmo who quizzed her as we sat around the multi head at VGH! Although we are sad to say goodbye to Lauren at the end of August, we wish Laruen all the best for her future, as she enters her last year of undergrad.
The CARMS interviews were on Zoom again this year, and it was a very busy & exciting 4 days meeting everyone.
We’d like to extend a warm welcome the following R1s who matched to Pathology & wish them all the best as they start their residency training.
HP has transitioned over to CBD, and Sina is our first resident in the new system.
The Transfusion medicine AFC program, under the excellent leadership of Program Director, Dr. Andrew Shih, underwent a Royal College external review in May, and was fully accredited. Congratulations & thank you to all the staff involved in the teaching of the AFC trainees.
Pathology day was held on May 27, 2022 at the Holiday Inn on West Broadway. Congratulations to the following residents who won awards for their oral presentations:
Our grad ceremony and dinner was back in person, and we hosted over 120 guests who enjoyed an evening at the Royal Vancouver Yacht club on May 30th.
We were treated to entertainment by our very own resident band, Nuclear Grooves, who made the evening extra special. A big thank you to: Jenny Wang HP (vocals), Jonathan Lee AP (drums), Sirim Kim AP (double bass), Toby Schmitt AP (piano)
We also said a big thank you to Dr. Brian Skinnider, who completed his term as the AP Program Director on June 30th, and a warm welcome to Dr. Jon Bush who has taken over as the new AP Program Director. Dr. Skinnider will still be very involved in residency training, as he has taken on the role of the Competence Committee chair for AP from Dr. Mike Nimmo.
Each year the residents honor a staff pathologist with an award for outstanding teaching. Congratulations to the following staff for their dedication to resident teaching.
