DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
Dr. Suzanne Vercauteren’s Department wide invitation to join the Department’s Inclusion Action Committee was met with resounding enthusiasm. Due to overwhelming interest in the Committee, which has a mandate for advising the Department Head on where the Department is inclusive and where improvements are needed, Dr. Vercauteren needed to kindly decline requests to join the Committee within 48 hours of sending the invitation. The Committee’s 16 members represent students, staff, clinical faculty and academic faculty who work either within UBC or within four of the province’s seven health authorities. As well, the membership of the committee closely resembles Canada’s population. Since their inaugural meeting in November, the Working Committee has identified four key areas to focus on – research, recruitment, communication and metrics – and has organized themselves into four working committees to address these key areas.
