Teaching in the BMLSc Program is a rewarding, satisfying way to contribute to the Department’s educational community. With recent changes, we have several openings for Course Coordinators (or Co-Coordinators) and Instructors.
  • PATH 301: Basic and Physical Biochemistry for Medical Laboratory Scientists

Winter Term 2: We are seeking two section leads/instructors for the course, one to teach the Carbohydrates section (~10 hours of teaching, plus exam prep and marking) and another to teach the Bioenergetics section (~6 hours of teaching, plus exam prep and marking). Contact the PATH 301 Course Coordinator, Dr. Bradley Coe at bradley.coe@cw.bc.ca if you are interested.

  • PATH 405: Seminars in Current Topics

Winter Term 1 & 2: 3 hours per week (on one afternoon, not lecturing!). This is a unique, student-centred capstone course. Students in PATH 405 learn to teach effectively, find best-evidence literature to answer well-constructed questions, think critically, write clearly and focus on what is important, provide constructive feedback to their peers and appraise their own performance. We are seeking a faculty member who would be part of the coordination team and who would enjoy mentoring, being a role model, providing constructive and instructive feedback and seizing teachable moments. Each year we are rewarded by witnessing remarkable progress as students develop their professional skills and become successful future contributors and leaders. In long-term follow-up surveys of our graduates this course is often cited as being among the most memorable and useful. Contact Dr. Amanda Bradley if you are interested or would like more information abradley@pathology.ubc.ca.

  • PATH 404: Diagnostic Histochemistry

A main focus of the course is for students to apply theoretical knowledge of the chemical mechanisms of histochemical procedures to the design of histochemical experiments. We are seeking an instructor to teach the sessions "In situ hybridization histochemistry" and/or "applications of immunohistochemistry". Please contact the PATH 404 Course Coordinator, Dr. Narges Hadjesfandiari narges.hadjesfandiar@blood.ca.

  • PATH 438: Directed Studies

We are seeking a Course Coordinator. For more information contact either the current Coordinator, Dr. Chun Seow at chun.seow@hli.ubc.ca or abradley@pathology.ubc.ca.

  • PATH 375: Introduction to Human Pathology

We are offering this course in both terms next year and are seeking instructors to join the teaching team. If you are interested in teaching 2 or more sessions of Human Pathology, please contact either Dr. Mike Nimmo michael.nimmo@vch.ca or Dr. Amanda Bradley abradley@pathology.ubc.ca. We are seeking a Course Coordinator for Term 1 as well.

In most cases previous teaching materials will be passed along, with permission of the past Coordinators or instructors, providing a good foundation to build on. If you would like to discuss other areas of teaching in the BMLSc Program, please email abradley@pathology.ubc.ca.
