The field was comprised of eight of the best Association Croquet players on the West Coast and included the Canadian number three Chris Percival-Smith.
PALM clinical and/or partner faculty members who are not UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS) members CAN act as primary supervisor for PALM graduate students (both MSc and PhD), as well as serve on supervisory committees.
This was my first tournament in many years. I had previously played Association Croquet internationally for Ireland prior to medical school and having a family but I had not been able to play for several years owing to those commitments.
Further, to support new supervisors and their students, our Graduate Program has a policy that if faculty (G+PS and non-G+PS alike) are supervising a graduate student in our program for the first time, a PALM co-supervisor is agreed upon and appointed. This is primarily to help the student and supervisor navigate the program requirements. For subsequent students, this is always an option but is not required.
Over the past year I have been searching for a suitable site to start and develop a club in Vancouver.
I’ve been able to convince a bowls club on the north shore to open its doors to croquet and I have sourced the equipment for Croquet Canada. We’re currently looking to recruit new members for the coming spring.
If anyone is interested in taking up the game or of learning more about it then please contact me at brodercj@tcd.ie or read more about it at https://www.westvancroquet.com/
