— UBC Centre for Disease Control

The Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) has announced 4.1 million dollar investment to renovate and improve dedicated UBC biocontainment research space at BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) to help research and respond to SARS-CoV-2, TB, AMR pathogens.

The PI of the project, called BOLSTER3, UBC Pathology member Mel Krajden said, "This much needed Federal investment will help UBC and the BC Centre for Disease Control carry out research to protect Canadians and the international community against highly resistant microbial superbugs and response to novel pandemic pathogens."

The Biosciences Research Infrastructure Fund (BRIF) —launched in September 2021— responds to urgent and essential needs of postsecondary institutions and research hospitals by supporting containment facilities capable of working with pathogens. This funding will help UBC researched embedded at BCCDC maintain cutting-edge facilities and strengthen capacity to work with industry and government to advance discoveries and promote training and talent development in the biosciences.

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is a non-profit corporation that invests in research infrastructure at Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals and non-profit research institutions.
