    Topic: "Immunomodulating Cell-surface Engineering Towards Improved Transfusion and Transplantation"
    Objectives:

    1. understand the development of blood group antigen conversion towards universal red blood cells, and their immunological compatibility;;
    2. understand the development of immuno-cloaking approaches using novel immune-suppressing polymers to prevent transplant rejection. .

Honours & Awards

  • Dr. Elizabeth Bryce, Clinical Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has been nominated for the 2022 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards (Research, the Sciences & Technology).
  • Dr. Carolyn Shiau, Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has been nominated for the 2022 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards (Health & Wellness).
  • Dr. Corree Laule is the new Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Radiology. Congratulations on your new appointment! Dr Laule is a physicist and has been involved with nuclear magnetic resonance and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) research for 22 years. She is jointly appointed as an Associate Professor in the Departments of Radiology and Pathology/Laboratory Medicine, and is an Associate Director of the International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD).

  • Call for Strategic Investment Fund proposals. To support the proposal process, we are introducing a new form to facilitate the consultation process with Strategic Plan Pillar Leads. Funding received

  • Dr. Devine, Dana received a grant from the Canadian Blood Services Canadian Blood Services Intramural Grant Program for "Improving blood product quality". The amount is $304,462 and the period is March 2022 to March 2024. Congratulations!

Career opportunities

  • Our team is currently looking for four PDFs. These PDFs will report to the Department Head of Experimental Therapeutics (Dr. Marcel Bally) and the Manager of the Investigational Drug Program (Dr. Nancy Dos Santos). The successful PDF will be responsible for the management and conduct of in vivo studies (rodents), including a diverse range of pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, safety, toxicity and efficacy studies focusing on the development of therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
