'Towards pathology-specific biomarkers of frontotemporal dementia with TDP-43 pathology'

'Learning objectives: 1.Compare and contrast the phases of biomarker discovery and verification; 2. Describe methods used to enrich for disease-specific TDP-43 proteoforms from human brain tissue; 3. List TDP-43 proteoforms that are associated with frontotemporal dementia with TDP-43 pathology.

BREAKTHROUGH IN HODGKIN LYMPHOMA TREATMENT PREDICTION BY UBC RESEARCH TEAM

In a significant advancement led by Dr. Christian Steidl from the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia, a new method has been developed to improve the prediction of treatment outcomes for patients with relapsed and refractory classical Hodgkin Lymphoma. This research, highlighted in a recent article by UBC Medicine, introduces innovative spatial biomarkers that hold promise for enhancing therapeutic strategies. INNOVATIVE CANCER THERAPY DEVELOPMENT BY DR. HONGLIN LUO'S LAB

On World Cancer Day, we highlight a groundbreaking publication from Dr. Honglin Luo's laboratory at the University of British Columbia. The team has pioneered a novel combination therapy for the treatment of breast cancer and melanoma, utilizing a tumor-killing virus alongside a molecule derived from bee venom. WELCOMING DR. SYAM SOMASEKHARAN AS ASSOCIATE MEMBER

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is delighted to welcome Dr. Syam Somasekharan as an Associate Member. With his primary appointment in the Department of Urologic Sciences, Dr. Somasekharan, an Assistant Professor and Senior Research Scientist at the Vancouver Prostate Centre, extends his expertise to our department. His research, focused on the molecular mechanisms of cancer progression and resistance, complements our department's endeavors in advancing medical research and improving patient outcomes. VCHRI is currently seeking an Associate Director of Fundamental Research and Preclinical Models to provide strategic leadership in guiding our fundamental research portfolio.
