Based on data from the UBC Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies on the average funding received through UBC, PhD students in our program ranked highest amongst all UBC Health Sciences Graduate Programs (MEDG, ONCO, MEDX, SPPH, etc), with an average annual funding of $40,855.00, which includes Stipend, Awards, GSI, and TA income.

INNOVATIVE ORGAN MATCHING PROJECT

B.C. will be the first in the world to test a new way of matching donor organs and recipients, thanks to a project led by UBC researchers, including our own Dr. James Lan. This innovative approach aims to reduce rejections, improve outcomes, and potentially eliminate the need for immune-suppressing drugs.

πŸ”Ή Christian Steidl, Andrew Roth,and their collaborators at the Centre for Lymphoid Cancer have published a paper in Cancer Cell on single-cell genomics in tFL. This study highlights the key role of TME and tumor B-cell crosstalk during transformation. πŸ”— Read the full paper.


πŸ”Ή Guangze Zhao, a PDF from the DC Yang Lab, along with faculty members Wan Lam, James Zhao, Honglin Luo, Bruce M. McManus, and Decheng Yang, has published a new paper. The study identifies NFAT5 as a cardioprotective gene in defending against viral myocarditis. πŸ”— Read the full paper.


πŸ”Ή Our faculty member, Steve Kalloger, has published a new paper titled "Cancer Related Fatigue and the Additive Effect of Treatment in the Context of Lymphoma: An Analysis of the Lymphoma Coalition’s 2022 Global Patient Survey" in AACR's new journal, Cancer Research Communications. The study explores cancer-related fatigue in lymphoma patients, highlighting significant variability across subtypes and estimating that nearly half of the reported fatigue is treatment-related. The findings emphasize the importance of increased screening and monitoring to improve patients' quality of life and health outcomes.πŸ”— Read the full paper.

CTLT EVENTS AND OFFERINGS

The UBC Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) has several exciting events and workshops in June that may interest our department members. Highlights include:

  • Generative AI Studios: Weekly sessions on using Generative AI tools in teaching and research (June 12, 19, 26, 27).
  • Applying Anti-Racist Pedagogy in the Classroom: A series focusing on anti-racist teaching practices (June 13, 20, 27).
  • Graduate Instructional Skills Workshop: A comprehensive in-person workshop for graduate students (June 15, 22, 23).
