Presentation Title: Hunting for bird flu in the mud: genomic surveillance of avian influenza viruses using environmental specimens from wetland habitats

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of avian influenza surveillance and the limitations of wildlife testing
  • Understand the technical challenges of sequencing viral genomes in environmental specimens
  • Understand how genomic data from environmental specimens can be interpreted to answer practical surveillance questions

SEED GRANT WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT

πŸ“’ Join us for a hands-on workshop, led by Dr. Cheryl Wellington, Professor and Vice Chair Research of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia. 🏫

This dynamic session will provide a deep dive into the art of crafting competitive grant proposals. βœοΈπŸ’‘ The program will culminate in the awarding of two collaborative seed grants, each valued at $15,000. πŸŒ±πŸ’°

Workshop sessions will be a blend of in-person and virtual formats, spanning two hours each, and will cover the essential elements of constructing a compelling research grant proposal. πŸ–₯οΈπŸ“Š

Research Study Announcement

Our colleagues in Psychiatry at the UBC Hospital Mood Disorders Centre have embarked on an important study exploring light and ion therapy as maintenance treatments for depression, named LIMIT-D. They've recently initiated participant recruitment.

They reached out and asked if we could assist by sharing this opportunity within our network. This study represents a significant step in mental health research, and collaborating could greatly promote mental health awareness.
