Congratulations to Dr. Denis Bonin on being appointed as Regional Academic Associate Department Head for the Interior Health Authority

Dr. Bonin obtained his medical degree from the University of Ottawa. After a rotating internship at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, he completed an AP/CP residency and Hematopathology Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. For most of his career, Dr. Bonin has worked in underserviced areas in Northern Ontario in both tertiary care and community hospital settings. Dr. Bonin has held various leadership positions in anatomic and clinical pathology, laboratory administration, quality assurance and medical education including: Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medical Director for Health Sciences North in Sudbury, Chair of Pathology at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Board Member for the Ontario Association of Pathologists and Northeastern Ontario Regional Pathology Quality Lead for the Quality Management Partnership. He is currently practicing hematopathology at the Kelowna General Hospital and serving as the Interior Health Regional Laboratory Medical Director and Clinical Department Head. He is a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC and the Interior Health Regional Associate Academic Department Head.

Teaching Opportunity: PATH 535/635

PATH 535/635 is a core course in the PALM Graduate Program. Students learn skills in all aspects of scientific communication (oral presentation, poster preparation, abstract, research summary, lay scientific communication, etc.).

We are seeking faculty (academic or clinical) interested in co-coordinating this course starting in September 2022. No discipline-specific expertise is required. Typically involves 1 or 2h of classic lecturing, ~25h of attending graduate student presentations and providing feedback, as well as assignment marking (posters, abstracts, research proposal, lay summary). This is a great opportunity to build your teaching dossier.

The course runs from September to April (~30h/year, typically 2h every two weeks, on Friday 3-5pm).
